Customers can come by the Merritt's Bakery at 3202 E. 15th St. today and receive a free slice of cake.
The occasion is to celebrate Alice's 25th anniversary with Merritt's Bakery. Alice started in 1987 when she was just 16 years old, and she has been managing the midtown store for 20 years.
She said when she first started her job was to wait on customers and at night help owner Larry Merritt fold boxes for the next day.
"Bobbie (Larry's wife) had to drag me by the arm to wait on my first couple of customers," Alice said.
The bakery closes at 6 p.m.
