Get ready for "August" in January

when we interviewed Tracy Letts in September 2009, he said that the national touring production of his Pulitzer Prize-winning play "August: Osage County" would make a stop in Tulsa in early 2010.

Well, the dates have been nailed down. "August; Osage County" will be presented Jan. 26-31, 2010, in the Chapman Music Hall of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.

The Tulsa Performing Arts Center Trust is the official sponsor of this, the only Oklahoma stop on the national tour. The major underwriter is the George Kaiser Family Foundation.

Estelle Parsons, who took over the leading role of Violet from Tony Award winner Deanna Dunagan, will headline the tour.

Which brings up another bit of news -- the actress who will take over as Violet Weston on Broadway (according to the play's website) is Phylicia Rashad.

Yes, the actress best known as Claire Huxtable on "The Cosby Show" (and who is now doing ads for a diet program) taking over as the chain-smoking, pill-popping, verbally abusing matriarch of one of the most dysfunctional families ever to inhabit the American stage. Should make for a fascinating evening at the theater.
