Girls' Hollywood Round on 'Idol': Zoanette, Kez Ban going to the Top 20?

Zoanette Johnson of Tulsa has made it so far on "American Idol" -- but will she make it to the girls' Top 20 Thursday night?

So far, so good for Zoanette Patilda Johnson -- Miss Johnson, if you're nasty.

Or "Big Crazy Barbie," if you’re Nicki Minaj, one of the four celebrity judges on tonight’s "American Idol" who sent Tulsa's own Zoanette -- and two other members of the unfortunately named Poo Snaps (was that really their name?) on to the next level.

Miss Z, as I prefer to call Zoanette, was featured somewhat prominently during Wednesday's 'Idol" episode, which showcased the girls' Hollywood Round.

And, for those of y'all keeping up with Season No. 12, that means Zoanette -- and pretty please correct me if I'm wrong in this observation -- is the one-and-only local voice represented going into Thursday's episode, when both the Top 20 guys and Top 20 girls will be announced.

True fans of the show know there's at least one web site detailing both those lists -- alleged lists of both the Top 20 guys and Top 20 girls. And Miss Z is on that list. But we won't be able to confirm that until tomorrow night.

In the mean time, the group segment of the show wasn't necessarily more dramatic than last week's guys' rounds -- but it may have been more annoying.

Like they did the guys, the girls groups were chosen by the show, which created some mild drama of a non Emmy-winning variety.

"Some claws are going to come out tonight," one girl said. Liar. Everyone was de-clawed, and there wasn't one drop of blood. Oh, well.

One of the quote-unquote highlights was Kez Ban, whose group didn't appreciate her eccentricities, which grated my nerves ... At first.

In my notes, I wrote, "Kez Ban wanted to sing 'California Dreamin,' and the little plastic b*****es said 'no' and did it with somewhat snide attitude." Sorry, I was hungry.

But had I been in that group, judging by KB's less-than-sunny morning attitude, as well as her general CRAY-ziness, I may have been a big ol' plastic b****, too.

Whatever, they sang The Ronettes' "Be My Baby" -- well enough that all four wooed the judges.

"Best group of the day," Nicki said after they left the stage. She even gave 'em a standing O (but you gotta wonder if that was just because they were the last group of the day). KB was interesting, but fellow group-mate Janelle was awesome.

I also loved the Swaggettes' "Hit 'em Up Style," a "good song choice," Nicki said. (By the way, I find that I quote Nicki more than any other judge on that panel.)

Anyway, the "Sin Wagon"-singin' girls of Raisin' Cane all made it through, as did The Dramatics -- the group with the standoffish Janel, who struck me as a big ol' drama queen.

Nicki was "obsessed" with her, though, and found it "endearing" that she didn't seem to fit in. Really? I don't get it.

"Somebody That I Used to Know" was covered by Almost Famous, whose Daysia was the only one to advance -- followed by some drama from her fellow group members, one of whom said, "This will be the last time I ever come on this show." Ya think, Pumpkin?

Handsome Women also sang "Somebody ... Know," with Liz being the only one making it through. Ditto for 4U or For You or Four U, however the heck they spelled it, with Stephanie and Holly making it through -- but barely, it seemed.

Among the others making it on were Shubha (coolest name of the season), Sarina-Joi, Aubrey, Tenna, and three of the four Dolly Chicks, who sang "Sin Wagon."

On Thursday, we'll see the girls' solo performances, as well as find out who made the Top 20 guys and Top 20 girls.

Who do you think is moving on beyond the Hollywood Round? Think Zoanette will make it?

Peace, love and sinful wagons that I used to know ... XOXO
