Greek yogurt

I had some wonderful Greek-style yogurt in Dallas this weekend.

Have any of you been able to find good, Greek-style yogurt in Tulsa? Maybe I've overlooked it, so please let us all know if you know where we can find it.

This particular yogurt was just slightly sweetened with pomegranate juice, and was so much better than your typical nonfat or fat-free, artificially sweetened yogurts.

All of those Yoplait and Dannon flavors sound so appealing: lemon pie, triple chocolate, wild strawberry. But, they're never as good as I hope.

It sounds like it would be fun to make my own yogurt using one of those nice yogurt makers, but that's one tool I don't have.

Let us know if you have either found some good yogurt in Tulsa OR if you have a great recipe/technique for making your own.

There is great Greek yogurt at Wild Oats. The brand is Fage. Some comes with honey to mix into the yogurt; some comes with fruit purees to mix into the yogurt. Greek yogurt is the BEST yogurt.

You all know that you can make your very own Greek Yogurt. (My mom made it every week)
Boil milk 1 qt. Do not burn let cool to lukewarm add 2 tablespoons plain yogurt. Blend it with a little of the milk and then add all to the milk. Set for 2-4 hrs or longer until thick. Refrig. Add any flavor you want. Secret is the temp of your milk when adding your starter. Has to be lukewarm.

The Greek yogurt at Wild Oats is delicious, rich, creamy... and fattening, an excellent treat. One option for everyday is to take a a high quality low-fat yogurt and strain it through cheese cloth and a seive for about 4-6 hours (any more and you will get yogurt cheese). This proceedure will thicken the yogurt. Enjoy with honey or fruit. And the pomegranate juice in the yogurt in Dallas might have been pomegranate molasses which can be found in middle eastern markets. Good Luck with your new obsession.

I also buy the Fage yogurt at Wild Oats. I buy the 2% and top it with granola. The best, most decadent breakfast!!

Fage yogurt is also found at Super-Target. I agree with others - it is fantastic. I love to drizzle a little honey and add fresh raspberries. Yum!

The yogurt (desai??? I am too lazy to go look in my fridge but they only have one brand) at the indian grocery Laxmi Spices on 41st is excellent plain yogurt. The middle eastern market at admiral and harvard (which you enter through a furniture store) is also really good. i like it plain but you can always add your topping.

And yogurt IS easy to make but it needs to sit longer than Ms. Hatch's recipe. I use a food dehydrator to keep the temp steady at 105-110 degrees.

Thank you all for the great yogurt tips. And, FYI, I found the yogurt I was telling you all about. It's called The Greek Gods, and you can find it at Center 1 Market at 3524 S. Peoria Ave. They sell the plain and the pomegranate.

Fage yogurt can now be found at Reasor's in Tahlequah..it's not with the "regular" yogurt, but where they keep butter and speciality and organic items. I'll not buy the other stuff again now that I know the difference!

Hi,
Thank you all so much for all the info about yogurt. I have been trying to find Greek yogurt here and I also appreciate the recipe on how to make your own yogurt.
Sincerely,
Becky

Greek Gods honey yogurt is without a doubt the best.

If you buy the larger container it's a little less costly...but you eat less because it's SO rich.......I have found it at food pyramid in the health food refrigerated area....heads up though......honey flavor goes the quickest
