Grooming items for guys and other germane things

Loved this movie, but it's not entirely germane to the big question I'm asking.

I used "germane" in a sentence this week. Correctly, no less. Yeah, surprised me, too ...

Anyway, the phrases "doesn't pertain to" or "isn't relevant" didn't come to mind, apparently, as I stuttered, stammered, hemmed and hawed my way through a sentence before suddenly remembering the G word.

"Sorry," I said, "but that doesn't ... Umm ... We don't ... Uhh ... That's not germane to the story."

I'd love to say it's a word that would normally spring to mind when I'm writing; but I totally remembered it from "House Bunny" with Anna Faris. Thanks, Anna!

And thanks Karen, a reader who emailed me to share her $10-or-less beauty find, after my story on other readers' favorites ran Tuesday.

The product she recommends is Lander Essentials Bubble Bath, Shampoo & Body Wash, which she found at Walmart for about $4.

Here's why she loves it, verbatim: "It performs 3 functions in one 32 ounce bottle," "I have found 3 different scents (Coconut, Vanilla and Lavender)," and "It is MADE IN THE USA." Has anyone else tried it? What did you think?

Karen's email reminded me of something I promised a male blog reader I'd do ASAP (oops). After I asked everyone for their favorite $10-or-less beauty finds, he suggested I do the same for guys -- so here goes!

Gentlemen, what are the most awesome products you use in your daily grooming regimen? It could be body soap, razors, deodorant, facial scrubs, toe nail clippers, whatever -- but stuff that's in the $10-or-less range.

Peace, love and German chocolate cake (sorry, "germane" made me think of it) ... XOXO

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
