National Rifle Association television is planning to tape segments of its “Guns and Gold” TV series at Wanenmacher's Tulsa Arms show Saturday and Sunday at Expo Square.
The show, which airs on the Sportsman Channel, is an "Antiques Roadshow"-like series which features unusual guns.
The firearms show is encouraging the public to bring in firearms, swords and knives for a free appraisal or to sell or trade. "Guns and Gold" airs at 8 p.m. Mondays on DirecTV 605, Dish 285 and AT&T U-verse TV, channel 642. The show also teaches viewers what makes an old gun valuable and what they should and should not do to preserve its value,” according to the nragunsandgold.com website.
The arms show, which is held annually in the QuikTrip Center, features general interest exhibits in addition to antique and modern firearms, knives, swords and accessories.
Those exhibits include The Browning Collectors and Smith & Wesson Collectors, plus Enola Gay navigator Ted "Dutch" Van Kirk, Sgt. R.V. Burgin, U.S. Marine Corps, RET. , whose heroic acts were depicted in the HBO series “Pacific,” and an exhibit titled “Future Guns, Arms of Hollywood Sci-fi & Fantasy” which includes items from "Star Wars" and “Serenity and other movies courtesy of the NRA’s National Firearms Museum. Rita Sherrow grew up with TV. Yes, it was the ever-present “sister” from another techno mother. At first look, it was instant "Like." From then on, the TV had to be on in every room while she studied, elementary school through college. An Air Force brat, she attended school in three states (Oklahoma, Montana and Georgia) and two foreign countries (Germany and Bermuda) and graduated from Broken Arrow High School and the University of Tulsa with a degree in journalism/advertising. She first interned in the advertising world but, when a J-School professor (who also covered politics for the Tulsa World) offered her an internship at the newspaper, she took him up on it. The rest is history. She has served as bridal editor, senior features writer for the women’s section, food editor and is television editor of the Tulsa World. In addition to writing about TV shows and interviewing the stars for “Scene” stories, she also writes a TV column for Weekend and produces the Sunday TV World listings magazine.
