Hardesty library tops for young readers

Livability.com, a website that is "all about the great places in between the big cities (and) finding the good stuff in small to mid-sized communities all across America," included Hardesty Regional Library as one of its top 10 Children's Libraries.

The Tulsa library, at 8316 E. 93rd St., is ranked third, behind ImaginOn in Charlotte, N.C., and the Vancouver (Wash.) Community Library.

Some of the qualities that the Livability staff thought set Hardesty Regional apart were its wide-ranging programs, its array of kid-friendly computers and large selections of books, movies and music, and "visually stimulating decor" done in a pirate theme (complete with glow-in-the-dark ships), capped off by the 420-seat Connor's Cove theater area.

They quote Monty Harper, a Stillwater-based singer-songwriter who specializes in programs for young audiences, as saying, "Connor's Cove is hands down the best performance venue for children in the state. It's just the right size, large enough to seat a good crowd, but small enough to feel intimate. The design is perfect."
