Heller Theatre wins four awards at OCTAfest

Tulsa’s Heller Theatre shared the top prize at the Oklahoma Community Theatre Association’s OCTAfest competition last week, for its production of the bittersweet romantic comedy “Shooting Star.”

Duncan Little Theatre’s staging of “Dixie Swim Club” was also chosen as the top show at this year’s festival. The two companies will represent Oklahoma at the American Association of Community Theatre’s Regional Festival, to be held in Lafayette, La., in April 2013.

Heller also won the “Standing Ovation” award as the audience’s favorite show in the festival, and Lisa Porter was one of six performers to be named best actor. The company also took first prize for its season brochure.

Seven state theater companies competed in this year’s festival: ReACT of Tonkawa, the Poteet Theatre of Oklahoma City, Enid's Gaslight Teens, Duncan Little Theatre, Shawnee Little Theatre and Red Carpet Theatre of Elk City.
