How about halibut?

The first shipment of Alaskan halibut arrived at Bodean Seafood last Friday, so the season for this low-fat, firm, mild-flavored fish officially has begun.

Start checking the better restaurants for halibut specials; they should be outstanding.

It can be cooked just about any way -- grilled, baked, steamed -- and it is delicious. If you want to try some at home, Bodean is selling it for $26.99 a pound.

I like to top it with a chipotle butter finish - canceling out, I suppose, its low-fat benefits.

Or you could go to the White River fish Market and pay about half for the freshest fish in town. Their Halibut is $12.95 a lb and delicious.

The White River Fish Market is still one of the best deals around. Each time we buy a gallon of their gumbo for Super Bowl Party and Kentucky Derby Party.

Their giant Prawn butterflied and grilled is heaven on a plate.

I too enjoy White River (best hush puppies ever!) but when I want fresh, rather than frozen fish, Bodean is my choice.

A nice economical choice at Bodean would be Steel Head Trout, which they've had in recent weeks.
I'd never had it before and was very impressed. Pink like salmon, but moister and more delicate.

alligator gar, carp and buffalo are much cheaper and taste "fishier."

haha... if I want cheap and fishy, I'll open a can of catfood.
