How do you like your Tyler Perry?

As I watched the ending of Tyler Perry's "Madea Goes to Jail" on TV last week, I thought about how his fans seem to walk out of the theater with a smile on their faces after his movies, usually as a result of outtakes showing over the end credits.
In the case of "Madea Goes to Jail," for those who haven't seen it, you see an extended psychologist office visit/argument between Madea (Tyler Perry in drag) and Dr. Phil. It's dumb fun, but it's fun, and the two crack each other up.
Now with Perry's newest, "Why Did I Get Married Too?" I wonder if the leaving-the-theater experience is as positive. There were no outtakes, because Perry clearly wanted the audience to leave thinking about the final shot of the movie.
No spoiler here, except to say that one of the movie's female stars, left alone at the end of the movie, is introduced to a man we all know in one of those obvious these-two-are-going-to-hook-up moments. He's one of Hollywood's biggest stars, and someone who had not previously worked with Perry.
The audience I saw the movie with was mostly women, and as they exited, they didn't seem to be smiling so much as swooning. They didn't seem to mind there not being any outtakes.

“I was born a poor, black child” … not me, actually, but Steve Martin’s character in the “The Jerk.” That absurd opening line is just one of the absurd number of film facts, quotes and minutiae contained in movie critic Michael Smith’s brain, at his disposal to toss out on a moment’s notice. Michael learned a few other life facts along the way (seven years as a Crystal’s Pizza & Spaghetti manager) before attempting journalism and joining the Tulsa World in 1996, where he’s covered everything from a school shooting in Fort Gibson to a tornado in Stroud to witnessing an execution. A little community theater coverage was sprinkled in there, too. Movies engender many of his happiest memories, from standing in line for “Star Wars” and “Grease” at the Southroads Cinema to the James Bond and Pink Panther movies that always premiered at the enormous Continental Theater.
