How long does it take to cook an omelet?

Apparently more than an hour if you're at the Cheesecake Factory and the dining room is half full.

We ordered two omelets, and after about 50 minutes we asked the server if he might check on the order. He returned to say "there was a problem" getting the omelets out.

When they did arrive, we asked what the problem had been. "The kitchen was backed up," he said.

Never mind we saw more complicated orders served to diners who arrived after we did. Never mind that the nice couple seated next to us received their Chicken Madeira IN 12 MINUTES!

We still enjoyed the omelets. We still purchased two pieces of cheesecake to take home. And we still tipped the server 10 percent -- an insult, yes, but generous under the circumstances.

Off the top of my head, I can think of three or four better ways the server could have handled this. Can you?

Within minutes of taking your order, the server should have come back to your table and said, "The laying hens have stepped out for a while, but the rooster is still here. May I suggest the Chicken Madeira?"

Sounds like the server went back and asked if there was any such think as a "cheese cake" omelet! LOL!

Haven't been yet simply because they are always so packed. Sounds like it hasn't gotten any better. They could definately do a better job of managing the tables they are serving. Sounds like the order got lost in the kitchen. They should have comp'd dessert.

We tried the omelets, also. It took forever. The omelets came one at a time, then we had to ask for the bread. The server ask us what kind of bread we wanted after going to the kitchen to ask if a bread came with the omelet.

Don't know if it is the server or the kitchen, but omelets take forever. It seems that is not one of the things prepared ahead.

Apologies were not given therefore, we will not patronize the Cheesecake again. Our son and his family love it.

There have been several times, with a really delayed order, that the server has said, "I'm so sorry - I forgot to get that order in," or "So sorry - they forgot that one in the line up." I understood that. Not a big deal. And have been comped the dessert or a percentage taken off. Ugly of them not to do something to compensate.
