Humbly into the new year go I ...

Meant to tell y'all this last week, but I keep forgetting. Early onset senility, I reckon.

Anyway, before leaving for Miss'ippi, I weighed myself at Mistress Leah's torture chamber -- good news! It necessitated my buying a new pair of jeans, which I wore with pride Christmas Eve in Hattiesburg while shopping with Dad.

So I'm ambling about, feeling all svelte and stuff, and this adorable little munchkin comes running toward me, arms wide open, screaming, "Santa! Santa!" Mind you, I wasn't wearing red, but her mama's face was immediately after.

Dad assured me it was my hair -- my dark blonde, curly, non-white hair. Uh-huh. Would've bought that line, though, had she come up to me yelling, "Disciple! Disciple!"

Lesson learned: Don't let step-off-the-scales afterglow make you too big for your new britches -- you just may be put back in your place by an anklebiter.

Peace, love and Happy New Year's! ... xoxo

What brand of jeans did you buy? Tell me it was something like True Religion or Jetlag.

Living Wright

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
