"Hunger Games" was the big winner at last night's "39th Annual People's Choice Awards" which aired on CBS.

The film, the first in a series of four based on the novels, took home six awards, including Favorite Movie. All winners at the event, which honored film, music and television, were decided by a vote of the fans.

"The Big Bang Theory" was the top comedy among network TV shows with "Grey’s Anatomy" chosen as "Favorite Network TV Drama." "Big Bang" cast member Kaley Cuoco served as host of awards show which featured performances by Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and Jason Aldean.

In the music division, Katy Perry reigned supreme as pop artist, Female Artist and Music Video and her KatyCats won Favorite Music Fan Following.

Actress Sandra Bullock was named the recipient of the first Favorite Humanitarian Award for her philanthropic efforts. In 2005, "The Heat" star adopted New Orleans' Warren Easton Charter High School which was severely damaged in Hurricane Katrina.

Bullock's friend Regina King introduced a highlight reel of the actress' continuing relief efforts, according to ibtimes.com.

The actress told the audience the credit goes to the volunteers who rebuilt the school.

"That little clip that you saw does not even begin to scrape the surface of the amazing volunteers and humanitarians that rebuilt the school," said Bullock, who has a home in New Orleans and adopted her son Louis Bardo there in 2010.

"And I'm not at all being modest when I say I don't do anything compared to what they do on a daily basis. I am simply blessed to be able to do what I do because of what you allow me to do, and that is write a check and be a really good cheerleader and that's it."

"…You will not find a student there that doesn't know that they are loved and cared for under that roof,” said the 48-year-old. “Half the senior class is attending college classes in their free-time. We have 100 perfect graduation rate. The students and faculty go to school on Saturdays to either study or to help others. I would so never make it in that school!" she said, laughing.

"They compete, but they never cut each other down. And all that happens not because it's easy, but because they do not allow themselves any other option than to succeed, even when life outside of those walls gives them no indication of support and hope."

Bullock, who is often referred to as America’s sweetheart, also thanked sponsor Walgreens for "not only having the greatest selection of lip gloss," but for donating $100,000 to the charter school.

This month, the drug store chain will also donate $1 to the charter school for each person who likes the company's Facebook page.

Bullock left the stage to a standing ovation from the crowd.
