The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy has caused the cancellation of a Thursday appearance by Chef Lidia Bastianich at Rogers State College, Claremore.

The storm continues to cause cancellation of flights from the East Coast.

"University officials have been working for the past several days to secure her trip to Oklahoma, but those efforts were unsuccessful due to the massive backlog resulting from flights canceled due to Hurricane Sandy," according to a press release issued Wednesday.

University staffers are contacting patrons who have purchased tickets to offer refunds and the university is looking at ways to schedule a future appearance in northeastern Oklahoma.

Bastianich, whose programs appear on RSU Public TV, was scheduled to make public and private appearances in Bartlesville, Claremore and Tulsa during her visit to Green Country to raise awareness about RSU Public TV and its educational outreach.

For information about refunds, please call 918-343-7773.

Bastianich's TV special "Holiday Tables and Traditions" for an Italian Christmas Eve feast, a Mexican-American Christmas Day, a Chinese New Year feast and a Jewish-American Passover seder is scheduled to be rebroadcast nationally on PBS at 7 p.m. Dec. 2.

Rita Sherrow grew up with TV. Yes, it was the ever-present “sister” from another techno mother. At first look, it was instant "Like." From then on, the TV had to be on in every room while she studied, elementary school through college. An Air Force brat, she attended school in three states (Oklahoma, Montana and Georgia) and two foreign countries (Germany and Bermuda) and graduated from Broken Arrow High School and the University of Tulsa with a degree in journalism/advertising. She first interned in the advertising world but, when a J-School professor (who also covered politics for the Tulsa World) offered her an internship at the newspaper, she took him up on it. The rest is history. She has served as bridal editor, senior features writer for the women’s section, food editor and is television editor of the Tulsa World. In addition to writing about TV shows and interviewing the stars for “Scene” stories, she also writes a TV column for Weekend and produces the Sunday TV World listings magazine.
