Newspaper reporters get yelled at, threatened and demonized as being nosy.

We are tasked with asking questions that make people squirm at best and get angry at worst.

In the quest to get correct information for the public good, we tend to tick people off.

But ranking us as having a more stressful job than a police officer or social worker, I can’t buy that.

In a survey by CareerCast , newspaper reporters have the 8th most stressful job, just below photojournalist.

While I do want to pull my hair out weekly, there are a few worse.

For a story following around several different child-abuse investigators, I found they face obstacles the public cannot understand.

Some situations they step into are inconceivable to the average person.

That could probably be said for adult protective service workers as well.

They deserve a top five spot.

Teachers didn’t make the list, and that’s ridiculous.

Spending quite a bit of time in public schools, I see the pressures put upon them as policymakers emphasize test scores and cut funding.

Child-care workers earn just above minimum wage in many cases, yet, have a hand in a child's early learning.

Public relations and senior corporate executives made the No. 5 and No. 6 spots.

I’m sure they are have difficult deadlines and clients, but they earn significantly more than social workers and teachers.

No. 1 is enlisted military personnel. No argument there.

Also, a military general (No. 2) probably has a heavy heart with the decisions to be made.

Firefighters prove time and time again they will venture into danger where others won’t, for a No. 3 placement.

The top 10 most stressful jobs:
1. Enlisted military personnel
2. Military general
3. Firefighter
4. Commercial Airline Pilot
5. Public Relations Executive
6. Senior Corporate Executive
7. Photojournalist
8. Newspaper Reporter
9. Taxi Driver
10. Police Officer

The least stressful job is college professor, which confirms my belief I should have gone into higher education.

The top 10 least stressful list:
1. University professor
2. Seamstress/Tailor
3. Medical Records Technician
4. Jeweler
5. Medical Laboratory Technician
6. Audiologist
7. Dietician
8. Hairstylist
9. Librarian
10. Drill Press Operator
