I smell world domination -- with a hint of chocolate

Although I should be writing my Tuesday column now, I feel like absolute ... Let's say "carp," as people tend to be less offended by fish.

However, color me piqued, or at least my interest, following this email alert I opened a few seconds ago:

"We're doing something big at Starbucks. Like Venti big." I bet you 50 cents they're running for some kind of office. Love me some Starbucks, but between them and Walgreens (which I shop with stunning frequency, according to my bank statement), I think they may be merging to take over the world. Just a theory.

Anyhoo, there's more: "We can't tell you what's going to happen because that'll ruin the surprise. Just come to any U.S. Starbucks on Tuesday, April 8 at noon Eastern/9 a.m. Pacific to celebrate something big."

For those of you, like me, who have a mental block against translating other time zones into our own, I'm pretty sure that means 11 a.m. Central time (that's us). Something tells me I'll be busy at that time, but if any of y'all go, keep me posted. And if it has ANYTHING to do with chocolate-covered espresso beans, email me immediately or call the newsroom and demand my cell number. (They won't give it to you, probably, but I'd find it flattering that you'd care enough to try.)

Peace, love and world-conquering venti bigness ... xoxo

You Know Who (5 years ago)
While I may be completely wrong on this, a coworker spoke with a manager at Starbucks the other day and they stated something along the lines that they were about to sell off a large amount of bagged coffee.....2 for 1 pricing. (Apparently in anticipation of possibly creating other, more tasty blends?)

Who knows? World domination at discount prices - the big box store from Arkansas already cornered that market :)

Living Wright

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
