Ice cream, Bibles and THE best burger in all of Seminole

I usually don't think of taking food photos until after I've already taken a bite or full-out devoured the entree. Sorry. Trust me, though, this used to be a really good cheeseburger.

In nearly 14 years of living in Oklahoma, I had never been to Seminole until today.

I rode there with photographer John Clanton for a story on the Jasmine Moran Children's Museum, which is awesome. But more on that a lil' later, so keep checking out the Tulsa World.

Anyhoo, as I hadn't eaten breakfast save for a Diet Coke, I was nigh to gnawing my arm off -- and may have done so, were it not for the frequency with which I use it. John, a cheeseburger fan, suggested Braum's. And as I've never had anything other than ice cream from Braum's (at least as far as I can recall), we went there.

I fully meant to see if they had a salad on the menu, and maybe they do. But as soon as I saw the words "bacon" and "cheeseburger," I couldn't help myself.

It truly was a lovely hamburger -- the best, perhaps, in all of Seminole. Quite a few people were eating burgers around us, so I assume Braum's has the mad meat hookup. Word to your mother.

Pardon the non sequitur, but an elderly gentleman ordered a small cup of ice cream and sat in the booth behind us. He opened up a big Bible, pages bent from obvious page-turning over quite a few years. And there he sat, eating ice cream and studying the Bible. It would've made a sweet picture, but I make a rule not to whip out my camera phone in small towns I've never visited before. Like my mamaw always said, ya just never know who has a hangup about having their soul stolen via camera flash.

But back to food. So who really has THE best burger in the Seminole metroplex? Or maybe the best burger in ALL of Oklahoma? Let me know, I feel a bacon-covered sin coming on ...

Peace, love and meat hookups ... XOXO

Dude, did you really just write a burger column and mention Braum's as the best? Good burger, love the locally owned fare for sure, but you gotta branch out from the chains. Check out Scotts in downtown Bixby, Hardens on Sheridan, Claud's on Peoria, Hanks on Admiral. Outside Tulsa, check out Barrys Grill in OKC, Coits in OKC, and Nic's Grill in OKC. Onion Burger? Sids in downtown El Reno. Braum's really? I hadn't stopped in Seminole in years, but saying Braum's is the best burger is like saying the best pizza is at Mazzios.

I haven't the foggiest as to where Seminole is... BUT... once you've made it back to the Metro try out the Bacon Cheeseburger at Wolfgang Puck Bistro. It's so flippin' good.
No, The Truth Hurts, in Seminole -- not Tulsa. I think all they have in Seminole is Braum's, Sonic and McD's, I think. But this was only my first visit, so Lord only knows!

I'll have to check out Scott's in Bixby -- never even heard of that, thanks!

When I was last there 30 years ago, my dining was restricted to the chow line at the local National Guard armory where I was assigned for my one weekend a month. I do know I would ask a local resident for a recommendation or drive the streets looking for a diner before settling for a chain burger. I would say that if you only had the three choices you note, at least you chose the best of that bunch, especially if you chose to get a shake with your burger.

My burger sources in Seminole tell me you should've visited Ali's Restaurant and Cafe.

I haven't had one for a while, but you have to try Tally's Hamburger Haven at least once!!

I think it's made with a mixture of ground pork and beef and comes with grilled onions and jalepenos. (The latter could be left off, I suppose, but that would be sacrilege.)

Truly awesome!

Alas, I have to restrict this kind of treat to once or twice a year.
(The fries vary a little from "best you've ever eaten" to "good".)
