Living Arts of Tulsa, 307 E. Brady St., will present two events this weekend in honor of Juneteenth.

One is the exhibit “Gumbo,” curated by Nathan Lee, director of Inclusion in Art, and featuring works by Oklahoma artists of color.

Among the artists whose works are featured are Albert Bostick, Betty Refour, Lola Jenkins, Marjorie Bontemps, Andrew Akufo, Suzanne Thomas, Don Thompson and Ronna Pernell. The exhibit will be on display Saturday through June 23.

The other is “Pretty Fire,” a play by actress and playwright Charlayne Woodward, presented by Theatre North. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday

Woodward, an actress who was nominated for a Tony Award for her work in “Ain’t Misbehavin,’” and who has been featured on the TV series “Law & Order: SVU” and the films “Twister” and “Unbreakable,” drew inspiration from her own childhood for this play, which presents a somewhat different aspect of the African-American experience.

As the New York Times review stated, the play “tells rapturous tales about her loving family, a gratifying change from stories of urban violence and despair….The reminiscences are quiet and literary, short stories brought to life onstage.”

Tickets for “Pretty Fire” are $12.50 at the door. For more information: 918-585-1234, tulsaworld.com/livingarts.
