Just so you know ...

So, I've read all over this site about certain readers being amped about the upcoming Tool show. It's a show I would have loved to preview for our readers, but I couldn't.

Why? Because I've been trying for more than a month to get an interview, press materials, etc. I was told numerous times, "Yes, we'll schedule an interview." What the Tulsa World finally got for a reply from the band's press people (yesterday) was "please feel free to move foward to another story. thanks."

So, it's that simple.

Sometimes, when there isn't a story in the paper about your favorite band performing in Tulsa, it isn't because we don't care to cover it. Quite the contrary. Sometimes, bands won't give pre-concert interviews. Or the publicists (or bands) stall and miss our deadline. Or the artist cancels the interview or reschedules. Other times, yes, we don't have space or time to write about everything, and must prioritize our coverage, thereby leaving some local, regional and national acts out of our publication.

And, we often have a policy that we don't review shows that we don't preview, simply because there are too many great shows coming through this area that we want to tell you about -- before they happen.

And now you know.

But, rest assured, we'll likely have great interviews coming up with Chris Cornell. And Debbie Harry. And AM and Bob Schneider. And probably Peter Bjorn and John. And tobyMac. And Shiny Toy Guns. Plus all the killer local and regional music acts we cover, as well.

Cheers.

I wonder if you will be able to get an interview with *Blue October* who will be in town for a concert at The Cains 11/16/07?

We've been trying, but I know we did interview Shiny Toy Guns, which will perform with Blue October at that show. Shiny Toy Guns had a stronger Oklahoma tie, with two members from Shawnee, Okla. So, knowing which acts we can "localize" often helps us decide whom to interview, as well.

Thanks for your question.

Oh well. Tool is sort of uninspiring these days anyway, certainly not worth 50 bucks a ticket. I've seen'em twice for half the price, and when they were better.

Jenny, I've heard tool is a terrible band to interview. Numerous times they have been known to make up crap, and make the press look stupid. I'm not surprised they mislead you, that sucks, but did you at least get the hook up on great seats at the show?

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
