Despite what my favorite frog once sang, it IS easy being green. It’s also fun, thanks to Mary Beth Babcock, owner of Dwelling Spaces.

That’s because she is collaborating with Mayor Kathy Taylor on the Be Green Tulsa Design Contest, which runs now through 5 p.m. Monday. (I know, it’s down to the wire – but if you creative types are like me, you work best under presh-uh. Got ya singin' "Shoop"? Just curious ...)

Anyway, the project’s scope is to design and market T-shirts, tote bags and other promotional items that advocate green awareness in Tulsa. Mayor Taylor is launching a program called Be Green Tulsa, Mary Beth told me. BGT's goal is to bring awareness to green issues in the city. It’s also the umbrella for the ReGreen Tulsa initiative you’ve read about in the Tulsa World (20,000+ trees planted by 2010, etc.).

OK, so back to the contest. Your T-shirt design (which can be submitted by email in JPG or GIF format to dwellingspaces@yahoo.com) can be anything at all that supports the Be Green theme. Designs will be printed on an off-white, organic American Apparel organic tee. So remember, designs must be suitable for one-color screen printing.

For more rules, like limitations, prizes, procedures and such stuff, visit www.tulsaworld.com/begreenrules. Winners will be notified Thursday.

Have a great weekend, and get to designin’!

Peace, love and bein’ green … xoxo

Living Wright

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
