Principles of organic and biodynamic farming have been buzz words in the wine industry over the past decade, and now King Estate Winery is adding solar power to the list of environmental advances in wine production.
King Estate, a celebrated Oregon winery, has teamed with SolarCity, Lane Electric Co-op and Advanced Energy Systems to install the largest solar power system at a winery in the Pacific Northwest. Construction of the 973.84 kilowatt solar system began this month.
The system's 4,144 solar panels on about four acres of land is projected to eliminate more than 38 million pounds of carbon dioxide over the next 25 years.
According to estimates from the Environmental Protection Agency, this amount is equivalent to the annual greenhouse gas emissions from 3,381 passenger cars or 1.9 million gallons of gasoline.
We'll pop a cork to that.
