Knotty Pine Barbecue openings delayed by legal disputes

The opening of the new Knotty Pine Barbecue restaurant in Broken Arrow, previously scheduled for last weekend, has been delayed due to a legal dispute.

The court suit involves former partners of Fish Tales Grill, the previous occupant at 1424 W. Kenosha St.; the franchisees of Knotty Pine LLC, and the landlord concerning the lease agreement and some kitchen equipment.

A request for a restraining order by the plaintiff was denied Tuesday, seemingly clearing the way for the restaurant to open when all of its operating licenses are in hand.

In a separate court case, Knotty Pine LLC has filed a claim against a former proposed franchisee concerning a restaurant location at 6161 S. 33rd W. Ave.

A statement on the Knotty Pine Facebook page says both locations are expected to open soon.

The Woodard family founded Knotty Pine in the early 1950s at 3301 W. Fifth St. That building was destroyed by fire in August 2010.

David Woodard, grandson of the founder, has spearheaded the attempts to revive Knotty Pine in new locations.

Sounds like David thought the restaurant business was as easy as having your cook of 30 years fire up the q and take money from people who have also been customers for 30 years. Welcome to the corporate world. Dude, they are doing you a favor and sending you a sign, the new will wear off of the new knotty pine and you will be suing the next owner.
