Tulsans anticipating the opening of La Madeleine Country French Café on Cherry Street won’t have to wait much longer.

Ashley Maddocks of La Madeleine has confirmed the Texas-based bakery and café will hold its grand opening April 10 at 1523 E. 15th St. The restaurant is expected to begin a "soft" opening some time next week.

She said founder Patrick Esquerre and president and COO Phil Costner will be on hand to greet guests on opening day.

Esquerre, who grew up in the Loire Valley region of post World War II France, opened his first la Madeleine bakery, or boulangerie, on Mockingbird Lane in Dallas in 1983.

More than 60 restaurants are part of the La Madeleine chain today, with most located in Texas. The Tulsa store will be its first in Oklahoma.

La Madeleine serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its signature dishes include egg crepe champignon, strawberries Romanoff, tomato basil soup, croquet monsieur sandwich (French twist on ham and cheese), spinach pochette (spinach and Swiss in puff pastry), chicken friand (chicken, mushrooms and béchamel sauce in puff pastry), chicken la Madeleine (chicken with mushroom sauce), shrimp crepe Florentine and crepe Romanoff.
