Le Bistreaux Pirate 'popping up' around town

Richard Schlosberg, chef at the McBirney Mansion before it closed recently, has started what he calls Le Bistreaux Pirate, a "pop up" restaurant, meaning it can pop up an any time in any location.

It currently is stationed at Sage Rage Melt Bar, 3746 S. Peoria Ave.

I received a late-hour notice on its next event, an autumn dinner scheduled Thursday, and I have the skinny on remaining events this month.

The autumn dinner will include French onion soup; curly endive, braised pear and beet salad with molasses-almond vinaigrette; apple-braised short ribs with roasted root vegetables and potato-parsnip puree, and pear-almond tarts with frangipane. Cost is $40.

Two brunches remain this month, on the 13th and 20th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Brunches include a small plate and entree, or three small plates, coffee and more for $16 a person. No parties more than six accepted. Reservations are strongly recommended.

The next dinner, a Winter Fling, is scheduled Nov. 18, and will include pan-seared black mussels with Pernod, lobster bisque and chive creme fraiche, red snapper, meuniere with lump crab buerre blanc, and chocolate sabayon custard. Cost is $80.

Each dinner, with reservations available from 6-10 p.m., is limited to 70 guests. Dinners are by paid reservations only, and they are BYOB. Reservations to any of the above events: 918-364-7243.
