Let's get, let's get, let's get ROCKED -- yes, in all caps

Sorry, that blog title has NOTHING to do with today's online ramble, other than the fact I'm listening to Def Leppard on my MP3 player. I know, it's the same kinda visual you'd get if Paris Hilton said, "No, the longer skirt, please."

Anyway, as I sit here trying (somewhat, anyway) to write my Tuesday column, my mind has been wandering from one random thing to the other -- like why does the woman on my voice mail seem to take pleasure by emphasizing the word "no" when she says, "You have (short pause for extra emphasis) NO new messages." I'd prefer she just say, "I'm sorry, but you don't have any voice mail messages yet." It'd give me hope, ya know? With Miss Automated's tone, though, she might as well be saying, "Look, no one wants to talk to you. Suspend your service."

Just a thought. OK, so here's the latest on Ex: We're kinda talking again, a bit here and there. I've promised not to text vicious things any more, and we may even have lunch or some kind of civil food-related fellowship some time soon-ish.

In other news: I'M GOING TO HEAR SIA IN DALLAS ON (why am I screaming at y'all?) March 15, House of Blues. Heard her? She's fabulous, seriously fabulous -- Australian musician, great songs, dreamy, bluesy delivery without sounding like she's been smoking Marlboro Reds since grade school. Obviously, the trip will necessitate visits to NorthPark, Cafe Brazil, that bakery I can't think of right now and, perhaps, a weigh station before crossing back over state lines.

OK, enough for now. Y'all have a good weekend.

Peace, love and standing-room-only concerts ... xoxo

I absolutely love your columns and your blog. Please tell me you have a novel in the works. Your writing reminds me of Richard Russo. Were you raised in a small town? Also, reminds me of Haven Kimmel who published her diary and it was a hoot. 'A Girl Named Zippy: Growing Up Small in Moreland, IN'. You make me laugh. I suffer from 'suicidal piggie' and search in the spring for wide sandals.

Thank you, Kathy -- and, of course, mom! Yes, I did grow up in a small town: Laurel, Miss., about 30 miles north of Hattiesburg (which most folks here seem to know, having at least passed through it on their way to Destin, etc.) I appreciate the Russo comparison, too kind!

Good luck on your sandal search -- can't have those suicidal piggies messing you up! xoxo

Living Wright

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
