The less young I become, the more infatuated I am with October.
Having suffered through 14 years of "August: Tulsa County," I tend to pine for September in late July.
September's so cool, I tell myself. Obviously, this is relative, considering our seemingly closer proximity to the sun each August.
But it finally
is cooler, thank the Lord, and my air conditioner gets days off now. Or, at least, nights. And for that, alone, I love October.
It's also more social than September, isn't it? More people milling about, taking advantage of the weather. Like it's the unofficial start to the holiday quarter of the year.
I also love Halloween, which wasn't celebrated much when I was growing up -- not in my house or community, not like it is here. Mostly, I watch horror movies each night for a month, usually at a friend's house. Still, it's enough fun for me.
Maybe I'll even go to Oktoberfest this year, as it's been too long since I chicken-danced.
So let's take a poll -- a poll dance, if you will: What's your favorite part of October?
(A) The cooler weather
(B) Football
(C) Tulsa State Fair
(D) Oktoberfest
(E) Halloween
Peace, love and "October: Tulsa County" ... XOXO
