Let's talk about sexting

Humming that Salt n Pepa song to yourself now? Yeah, me neither ...
Anyway, as I allude to in my Tuesday column, I read online (a CNN.com poll, to be exact) about sexting and whether or not folks thought it should be considered sexual harrassment. I voted "no," assuming both parties are consenting, right? Or not? Let's discuss.
Peace, love and consensual texts ... xoxo

Between consenting adults, I'm pro this concept. It's a great way to connect to your loved one in between boring meetings; and just a little way to say - Hey, can't wait to get home tonight honey. Keeps it short and sweet, but reminds your beloved that you are thinking of them. Be mindful however, that others are likely to pick up your fancy phone and peruse your texts (nosey much?) so be sure and clear the message after sending. Worth the effort! Hey JAW, I am a fan and have been enjoying your work for as long as you've been around! Keep up the great work!

I think if they are sexting, then they are probably emailing the same type of content and etc... at the end of the day you just have to hope your kid has the common sense not to do it, sexual harrassment implies that one party is opposed to the content of the text and has requested it to stop. Otherwise its unfortunate that young ladies are sending pictures of them selves, but it is their body and theirs to show to the world, I suppose. Oh, what a world! Takes confidence though, I would just die if anyone saw what I look like under my skinny jeans!

My husband and I sometimes subtly innuendo through text but only once have I recieved pictures from him, but if someone randomly sent me dickpics I would just block them and that is the beauty of technology. I've worked with sexual harrassment before and nothing sent over a phone can equal what can be conveyed in person. Just remember lewd behavior is not always harrassment.
Now minor children under 18 I believe sending nude pics can be illegal(child porn) and recieving can get you in big trouble as well. So keep those skinny jeans on til your legal and if recieving unwanted sext delete block and contact your provider to report, if it is you and your sweetie sext, sext, sext.Just don't send to ALL on your list.

Living Wright
While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
