The Lil Wayne concert scheduled for Friday night at the BOK Center has been moved to Oct. 11, organizers announced Friday morning.
Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., also known as Lil Wayne, postponed the show due to an emergency surgery, according to a press release from the BOK Center marketing team. Casey Sparks, director of marketing and sales for the BOK Center, said the venue had confirmed the reason for rescheduling the show with Carter’s record label, Young Money Entertainment, and his tour manager.
All tickets for Friday’s show will be honored Oct. 11. Refunds also are being offered at “point of purchase” locations, Sparks said. Contact the location from which the tickets were bought for further refund procedures.
Sparks declined to say how many concert tickets had been sold.
Suite holders were notified via e-mail late Thursday about the postponement. The announcement was posted to the BOK Center Web site about 9 a.m. Friday.
Dental work has been cited for more than one missed court date by Lil Wayne, as well.
Lil Wayne was arrested on July 22, 2007, in New York after drugs and a loaded 9mm handgun were found on his tour bus. On Sept. 9, he pleaded not guilty to illegal gun possession, after missing an earlier court date in which he claimed he was having emergency dental work done.
He and two members of his entourage were arrested on Jan. 22 of this year after a traffic stop by DEA agents in Yuma, Ariz. Officials allegedly found drugs and guns on his tour bus. He missed his initial Arizona court date, blaming root canal surgery, it was reported. That court date has been rescheduled for Oct. 9, reports show.
The New Orleans-raised rapper appeared last week on “Saturday Night Live” and is known for hits “Lollipop,” “Fireman,” and “Tha Block is Hot.” Released in July, his album “Tha Carter III” sold 1 million copies in its first week.
