On Saturday,
Little Joe McLerran won the
Blues Society of Tulsa's Blues Challenge and the opportunity to compete in the 25th annual
International Blues Challenge in Memphis in February.
It will be Little McLerran's fourth consecutive trip to the event.
Joe's first trip to Memphis was in 2006 as he represented the Oklahoma Blues Society after winning the regional competition held in Oklahoma City .
In 2007 Little Joe and his partner Robbie Mack won the solo/duo category in the IBC competition held by the Tulsa Blues Society for a return trip to Memphis.
In 2008 Little Joe formed a band with Jimmy Jr. Markham, Ron McRorey and Robbie Mack to win first place in the Tulsa Blues Society's band category and another trip to Memphis.
Last Saturday night Little Joe did it again. All by himself this time. Against a lineup of five other solo/duo challengers, McLerran took first place again. Fourth time is the charm? Joe was fantastic. I wish you could have been there.
This years IBC winner in Tulsa's band category was Jennifer Marriott and the Odd Sheep Out Band.
