Sales of energy drinks spiked 14.4 percent last year, according to the Beverage Marketing Corporation.

Consumers also guzzled down more ready-to-drink tea and coffee, sports beverages and bottled water.

Meanwhile...carbonated soft drinks remained the biggest liquid refreshment beverage category, but sales declined last year by 1.7 percent, according to the BMC.

And here’s another beverage fun fact - total liquid refreshment beverage volume exceeded 29.5 billion gallons in 2011.

I wonder if the significant growth in energy drinks is due to more aggressive marketing.

Or, are we all just looking for a quick energy boost in a bottle?

"I wonder if the significant growth in energy drinks is due to more aggressive marketing."

I think so, and that's due to the advertising people drinking the product they're advertising.

I've read that people who have high blood pressure or any heart problems should not consume energy drinks as it can cause the heart to beat faster than normal.
