Classical theater is far from obsolete -- it's being played out in the African country of Kenya.

Aristophanes came up with this idea back in 411 B.C., in response to the Peloponnesian War that had been going on for 27 years between the city-states of Athens and Sparta.

In 2003, screenwriter Kathleen Blume came up with the concept of theater companies presenting staged readings of "Lysistrata" to protest the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Tulsa's Midwestern Theater took part, with a dozen or so local actors reading from Aristophanes' comedy.
