As you're making your next grocery list, consider this: Somewhere in Stilwell, a cook is making a list of everything that will go into a prize-winning creation.

The recipe contest at the Stilwell Strawberry Festival is serious business. Yes, there's a cash prize, but it's the bragging rights that bring out the hometown cooks whose reputations are on the line.

Two years ago, John Bankel won first place for a strawberry pie with a vanilla cream base. It’s a great recipe that's even better with homegrown or local strawberries.

The Stilwell Strawberry Festival takes place Saturday in downtown Stilwell.
