Mayor suggests ban on soft drink refills

... And this one here is me as a kid, enjoying the view from Mt. Soda ...

How would you react if your town's mayor said you couldn't buy a 32-ounce Diet Coke? Or get a refill on the one you bought at a restaurant for $2.50?

The mayor of Cambridge, Mass., has apparently taken a cue from a controversial proposal in the Big Apple to ban large, sugary drinks -- more specifically, outlawing large-sized sodas and other sugary sips in restaurants, according to a story on CNN.com.

The mayor has also suggested that city officials consider banning free refills of sugary beverages, which would be a step beyond New York Citys plan, the story went on to say.

Earlier this month, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg proposed banning sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces at restaurants, food carts and other establishments that receive letter grades for food service, but not grocery stores.

I see where the mayor's coming from. We are, on average, a pretty fat nation, and I epitomize it. I mean, 16 ounces is twice a serving size anyway, so who in the world needs more than 16 ounces?

Still, it's my money, my body and, therefore, my right to drink however much pop I want -- right?

OK, I'm torn. What do YOU think about all this?

Peace, love and banned carbonation ... XOXO

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
