Mecca Coffee Company - a Tulsa fixture for 90 years - has opened a second location.

The new store at 10114 S. Sheridan Road opened it’s doors Thursday, said owner Michell Culbreath.

Mecca’s other store is at 1143 E. 33rd Place and has long been a go-to spot for spices, teas, coffee, cooking supplies and gifts. Last year they added a tasting section featuring a wide variety of balsamic vinegars and olive oils.

Culbreath said that they are sharing a space with Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory.

"I had been thinking about it for a couple of years. I always had south Tulsa customers who would call me to see what time we were going to close or saying that they were trying to get out here, but they were stuck in traffic...” Culbreath said.

So when Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory invited her to share a space, she thought it was a perfect idea.

But they won’t be offering bulk spices at that location because spices have a tendency to lend their flavors to chocolate, she said.

"We will be packaging them at our other location and bringing them out there,” Culbreath said.

She said the two stores should compliment each other well.
"We have really had a good response so far,” Culbreath said. “We are really pumped up about it.”

There have been five owners of Mecca during its 90s years. Culbreath said that as of December, she and her husband have had the store 23 years.

Mecca’s first location was downtown at Second Street and Boulder Avenue. They have sold spices and coffee, but back then, they also sold foods from pickle and olive barrels.

They are offering a special for customers at the new location. If you spend $15 at the south Tulsa store, you will receive a free 60ml bottle of one of our zesty balsamic vinegars though the month of October.
