Michael Dorn announced to
Trek News that he has come up with a pitch for a Star Trek show in which Worf is captain of a starship, and is currently attempting to land it with a major network.
There are several reasons why this is the best idea for a Star Trek series I've heard of in ten years:
1. Worf has an amazing and completely fleshed out backstoryWorf was the first Klingon in Starfleet, raised by humans on Earth. His parents were killed in a Romulan massacre and an evil Klingon elite family framed his father. He then regained his house and honor only to lose it all when he opposed the Klingon Chancellor and sided with the Federation in the Federation-Klingon war. He lost his brother to another family, and has only recently made peace with his son who disowned him.
2. Worf's backstory was originally created by Ron D. Moore, the creator of Battlestar GalacticaRon Moore originally wrote Worf's backstory, and soon became the writer for any Klingon episode. He worked with Michael Dorn to establish his character and is considered the father of Worf's story.
This man also wrote Battlestar Galactica.
Battlestar. Galactica.3. Michael Dorn is a super-nice guy in person.I've been attending the
Tulsa Trek Expo for a few years now and one year I was able to hear Michael Dorn speak. He is an amazingly genuine guy and is incredibly nice to fans. He deserves to have his own show.
4. Michael Dorn was future man in a recent commercialBecause this exists.
5. Worf has been in two Star Trek series, and three movies.Worf has not only been in every TNG movie, but has been a heavy hitter in two of the most popular Star Trek series. His original character in TNG was matured by his time on DS9, and his original grunting and huffing around was replaced by a more cultured and defined approach to the Klingon lifestyle, as evidenced by
THIS clip.
6. This allows us to visit the original timeline again. We're exploring an entirely new timeline with the movies, but a Worf series would allow us to view the original timeline where Romulus was destroyed, and we might be able to see the fallout from a disruption in the Romulan Empire.
In the last TNG episode, in the Q-Future timeline, Worf states that the Klingons had conquered the Romulans, so we might see something similar if we get a Worf TV show.
We need this show. Let's fight for it.
