Tortoises compete in the 2009 race at the zoo.

Looking for something to do with your family Wednesday morning? Here's a fun way to break up the week: the Tulsa Zoo's Tortoise Race.

Slow and steady will win the race in this contest of the zoo's tortoises.

Here are the contestants:

  • Flash, a 4-year-old Aldabra tortoise is last year's winner, and a zoo representative tells us he's in top shape.

  • Diablo may be Flash's biggest competition. He's a wild guy both on and off the track.

  • Turbo is the old pro. Some years he's in to win but other years he doesn't have his shell in the game.

The tortoise race is the lead up to the Tulsa Zoo's big Zoo Run, which takes place Saturday at the zoo. The run includes 5k and 10k runs as well as a 1-mile fun run. Registration packets are available at the zoo and at New Balance in Utica Square. For more information, go to tulsaworld.com/tulsazoo.

But until then, all eyes will be on the four-legged race.

Tulsa Zoo's Tortoise Race
When: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday
Where: Tulsa Zoo, 6421 E. 36th St. North
Cost: Zoo admission, which is $8 for adults and $4 for kids ages 3 to 11
