The first Taste of Country music festival will be Aug. 17 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The night's brightest star will be Oklahoma resident Miranda Lambert, who headliners the show, but not before her side project Pistol Annies also take the stage.

Also performing will be Randy Houser, Chris Knight, Adam Hood and Amanda Cramer at the Arkansas Music Pavilion at the Washington County Fairgrounds, 2536 N. McConnell Ave., Fayetteville, Ark.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Music begins at 6 p.m. All ages. Tickets start at $47, available by calling the Walton Arts Center Box Office at 479-443-5600 or visiting amptickets.com.

Lambert first landed on the public’s radar in 2003, when she appeared on the country music singing competition "Nashville Star." She has since become one of the top-selling country music acts today.

The Pistol Annies were formed after friends Lambert (Lone Star Annie) and Ashley Monroe (Hippie Annie) made a midnight call to fellow singer Angaleena Presley (Holler Annie). The group first appeared together at the Academy of Country Music’s “Girls Night Out” special last April. Their first album, "Hell on Heels," was released last August.

No outside food or drinks are allowed into the venue. Lawn chairs, blankets, and umbrellas are allowed, and all performances go on rain or shine.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
