Melody Vinnett.

MissMeloVi is a 25-year-old singer/songwriter born and raised in Tulsa.

Her alias is derived from her name, Melody Vinnett.

MissMeloVi will release her first solo EP, "C'est la Vi" with a black and white party and album release concert, 8 p.m. Friday at the Blue Dome Diner, 313 E. Second St., downtown Tulsa.

This project features music about real-life circumstances, and gives a creative alternative to today's popular secular music. Influences cross variety of styles and genres from pop to R&B to contemporary and even classical.

A 2006 winner of the Ms. Black Tulsa title, Melody also is a trained classical opera and jazz singer.

She stretched her talent by singing for years with the radical gospel group, One Generation of PraiseGreenwood Christian Center,.

She also is involved in community action projects that empower young people.

"Through this project I hope to share a few chapters of my life story with the world and show them the life I lead," Vinnett said in a press statement.

"The only reason I want to be a star is so my light will shine bright enough that people across the world can follow it to where He is."

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
