Sometimes you are really thirsty...

No super-sized sweetened drinks will be sold in New York City if Mayor Michael Bloomberg gets his way.

But a new study shows that most Americans oppose his idea.

A recent Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 65% of American adults oppose a law that would ban the sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 ounces.

It’s part of his plan to fight obesity.

Twenty-four percent favor the proposal and 11% are undecided about it, the study found. The survey of 1,000 adults was conducted May 31-June 1 by Rasmussen Reports.

A law, prohibiting the sale of something totally legal to possess? Get serious. If people want to drink themselves to obesity, it is their right to do so. Government has no place intruding on citizens' rights to protect them from themselves. The same applies to seatbelts, helmets, and all the rest of the "social" legislation we have.

You can't legislate this - people will find ways around this.
