What's new on Friday, May 8:

"Star Trek": What is old is new with the fate of the Starship Enterprise in the hands of filmmaker J.J. Abrams ("Lost") and a crew of stubbly-faced actors playing Kirk, Spock and the rest of the gang. The buzz is big, but then what movie this summer won't be overhyped? For those panting for the film's arrival, there's good news: Almost every theater in town is debuting the movie on Thursday night, and not at the usual witching hour, with shows at 7 and 10 p.m. mostly, and with RiverWalk and Cinemark Tulsa each showing it four times that evening.

"Next Day Air": Donald Faison ("Scrubs") and Mike Epps head the cast in this crime comedy about losers who find a package of cocaine delivered to them by mistake, making them think they've struck gold. Not smart.

What's new at the discount house on Friday:

Speaking of hype and reality, the underwhelming comic-book flick "Watchmen" arrives at both local dollar movie houses this week.

My favorite 2009 film so far, the witty, wonderfully retro "Adventureland," opens Friday at Movies 8, while horror remake "Last House on the Left" starts at Supersaver Cinema.
