Movie showings comings and goings

Opening this week:
"Terminator Salvation" gets an early start with midnight shows Wednesday, then times as early as 10:30 a.m. on Thursday for the fourth film in the sci-fi series, starring Christian Bale as John Connor, who would be the son of Linda Hamilton's character. It's complicated.
"Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" has midnight showings at some theaters on Thursday, then opens with a bang on Friday: It's everywhere, it's on the Imax at Cinemark, it's at the drive-in.
For that matter, the Admiral Twin has its first real blockbuster double-feature on both screens this weekend, with "Terminator" followed by "Star Trek" on one side, and "Night at the Museum" followed by "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" on the flip-side.
"Dance Flick" spoofs the dance movies (with "Save the Last Dance for Me" as its centerpiece), with the Wayans family comedy troupe of "Scary Movie" fame starting over with a new generation: The film's star is Damon Wayans Jr., the son of the comedian.
"Barking Water" is a Circle Cinema exclusive, screening the new film from Tulsa writer-director Sterlin Harjo and which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. As a bonus, Friday and Saturday night 7 p.m. showings feature Harjo and company on hand for a Q&A session immediately following the screenings. Harjo is a gifted storyteller whose films capture the spirit of Oklahoma and the Indian experience in this state, and this melancholy drama is truly impressive.
What's new at the discount house on Friday:
The Disney kids' sci-fi flick "Race to Witch Mountain," which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and "I Love You, Man," the R-rated comedy starring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel, both debut at Movies 8 and Supersaver Cinema.
Only at Movies 8 on Friday: Muscle-car/muscle-head flick "Fast & Furious," cheer-camp comedy "Fired Up" and spookfest "The Haunting in Connecticut."

I See Movies for Free

“I was born a poor, black child” … not me, actually, but Steve Martin’s character in the “The Jerk.” That absurd opening line is just one of the absurd number of film facts, quotes and minutiae contained in movie critic Michael Smith’s brain, at his disposal to toss out on a moment’s notice. It’s a key requirement as Tulsa World film critic to know these things. Michael learned a few other life facts along the way (seven years as a Crystal’s Pizza & Spaghetti manager) before attempting journalism and joining the Tulsa World in 1996, where he’s covered everything from a school shooting in Fort Gibson to a tornado in Stroud to witnessing an execution. A little community theater coverage was sprinkled in there, too. Movies engender many of his happiest memories, from standing in line for “Star Wars” and “Grease” at the Southroads Cinema to the James Bond and Pink Panther movies that always premiered at the enormous Continental Theater.

Big winner tonight: producer Harvey Weinstein. "The Artist" wins 5 Oscars, "The Iron Lady" goes 2-for-2, even wins best documentary.
