What's opening in Tulsa movie theaters this week is led off by the Wednesday premiere of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" in Imax, finally arriving after a five-week run on the giant screen by "Transformers 2."
A highlight on Friday is a film that I've received the most e-mails summer as to when it's opening, due to its platform release of reaching new markets each week, and that is "The Hurt Locker," a superb war film -- an Iraq war movie that is action-packed, realistic and not politically preachy -- that will be screening at Cinemark Tulsa and Promenade.
Also on Friday:
Tulsa United Film Festival, three days of documentaries, short films and Q&A sessions as this fun festival, now in its seventh year, takes over the Circle Cinema.
"Funny People," the new Judd Apatow movie that's part serious -- a subplot about a comedian who may be dying -- and part raunchy humor, with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen.
"Food, Inc." is a documentary showing at Circle Cinema about the food we eat and how it's produced, presented in cooperation with Whole Foods Market.
"Aliens in the Attic," a sci-fi kids comedy with Ashley Tisdale among other teen actors who must keep little green men from invading their home.
"The Collector," a horror movie from the writers of the "Feast" series and the "Saw" films, Nos. four through six.
"Street Dreams," a skateboarding teen drama starring Paul Rodriguez Jr.
At the dollar houses, "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian" and "Terminator: Salvation" arrive at both the Movies 8 and Supersaver Cinema, and "The Taking of Pelham 123" opens at Movies 8 as well.
