Mustang Brewing Co. of Oklahoma City to release limited-edition beer Monday

Oklahoma City-based Mustang Brewing Co. on Monday will release Brandy’s Imperial Sundae, the first in the brewery’s new line of premium beers called the Saddlebag Series.

The plan for the Saddlebag Series is to do limited runs of different styles of beer three to four times a year.

Mustang produced approximately 1,500 22-ounce, serial-numbered bottles of Brandy’s Imperial Sundae, and when they are gone, they are gone for good.

The beer is a vanilla-infused Imperial Porter aged in American oak from brandy barrels.

“This is by far the most complex beer we have ever released,” brewmaster Gary Shellman said in a news release. “It is rich and creamy with vanilla and chocolate flavors swirling in the body that give way to a slightly smoky finish. At 9 percent alcohol by volume, this beer really packs a punch, too.”

The beer was brewed in Krebs, where Mustang has partnered with Choc Brewery on several occasions. Thom Self, a concert poster artist from Tulsa, designed the label.

The new line of darker, more complex beers signals a new direction for Mustang.

“Our flagship beers, Golden Ale and Washita Wheat, helped us build a reputation for making craft beers that were full of flavor but still easy to drink, falling in our ‘session’ beer category,” said founder Tim Schoelen. “It has worked well for us for three years, but we felt it was time to branch out and really let Gary go wild with the Saddlebag Series.”
