Yep, I'm the one who broke the
Hanson story.
I've been following the comments left on our breaking news site, and I must say that the attitude of some of the people posting to our site -- most of them local -- is sometimes shocking, but not entirely unexpected.
All bashing aside, Isaac Hanson has a very serious medical condition. As a professional, I know that he is an intelligent and kind musician who cares very much about his home town, and has done a lot for the area music industry. He (and the Hanson family) is an asset to this community, and an invaluable, positive example of the sometimes profound generosity and kindness Tulsans are capable of sharing.
Locally, some of us might never learn of the damage we're doing to our very important home industry -- and to every person involved in it -- when we carelessly and continually bash the artists emerging from this area. Most of them (including Hanson) are doing it on their own dime and on their own time. It's not easy work.
Whether or not anyone here gives one whit about Hanson's music, everyone who hears original local music here owes this band at least some small debt of gratitude. This is a fact: The Hansons are part of the bedrock that has supported the growth of a thriving, original, local music community.
Okay, I'm done whipping the choir with wet noodles. Or however that saying goes. ;)
Get well soon, Ike. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
