"The Office" will close its doors May 16 on NBC.

That's the word from the network which announced Thursday that the show will finish with 200 episodes including a one-hour finale airing at 8 p.m. May 16.

"The Office," based on the award-winning BBC hit, is a fly-on-the-wall "docu-reality" parody of modern American office life, delved into the lives of the workers at Dunder Mifflin paper supply company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, for the past nine seasons.

On Thursday's episode (8 p.m. on channel 2, cable 9), Andy's return forces Erin to make a choice and a Valentine's Day sale has the staff coupling up.

No word yet on who will guest-star on the series finale.

I was working and living just outside of Scranton Pennsylvania last year. Went downtown a few times checking out some of the building that were on the show; of course the shoe wasn't filmed there. The coolest place to go while in Scranton is Steamtown. Its the old railroad yard of the Lackawanna Rail Road. It is now a national park. Scranton is the heart of the Anthracite coal region.

No great loss as far as I'm concerned. I am a fan of many British sitcoms but never liked "Office," and it was no better after crossing the Atlantic. I found it more exasperating than humorous (or humourous).

I wanted to like The Office and I tried watching it a few times early on, but I just couldn't get into it. The show seemed silly, none of those characters seemed to not do much in the way of working and though I think Steve Carvell can be funny, I found him annoying on the show, what a boss. ha ha

Rita Sherrow grew up with TV. Yes, it was the ever-present “sister” from another techno mother. At first look, it was instant "Like." From then on, the TV had to be on in every room while she studied, elementary school through college. An Air Force brat, she attended school in three states (Oklahoma, Montana and Georgia) and two foreign countries (Germany and Bermuda) and graduated from Broken Arrow High School and the University of Tulsa with a degree in journalism/advertising. She first interned in the advertising world but, when a J-School professor (who also covered politics for the Tulsa World) offered her an internship at the newspaper, she took him up on it. The rest is history. She has served as bridal editor, senior features writer for the women’s section, food editor and is television editor of the Tulsa World. In addition to writing about TV shows and interviewing the stars for “Scene” stories, she also writes a TV column for Weekend and produces the Sunday TV World listings magazine.
