Neil Diamond gives refunds to fans ...

A raspy-voiced Neil Diamond apologized for his performance recently at Ohio State University, and was diagnosed with laryngitis, reports show.

He offered refunds to his fans to compensate for the lackluster performance, saying on his Web site, "I haven't let you down before and I wont let you down now. Until you hear from me again remember, You are the sun. I am the moon. You are the words. I am the tune. Forgive me. I love you. Neil."

(Now that's funny.)

The singer is expected to perform at Tulsa's BOK Center on Oct. 21.

Several upcoming shows have been postponed while he recuperates.

UPDATE: He has announced that he will indeed refund ALL tickets for the 11,000-seat show. From Rolling Stone online: The all-out refund shocked even the concert’s promoter, with Scott Stienecker saying “I’ve sat through Vince Neil falling-down drunk before. I’ve sat through Bob Dylan not even acknowledging that there was a crowd,” and neither of those artists refunded the fans.

Wow.

I've seen bands so on the "nod" they just sort of gazed at their instruments, and WANTED to demand my money back. Kudos to Mr. Diamond for being square dealing with his fans...I'd loved to have seen him 30 years ago!

I never really got into Neal Diamond, but this is just so awesome. Now I want to relisten to him... Take note bands, this guy could teach you a thing or two about getting fans to love you.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
