It's safe to say that the majority of nerds are looking forward to the release of "Man of Steel" in 2013.

Nerd roundtable: We're looking forward to some great things in 2013

This week, our roundtable discussion turns to what we’re looking forward to in 2013. There are a lot of options here with so many great movies, tv shows and other things happening next year. Did we miss something? Leave a comment below or email us at PrairieNerds@tulsaworld.com

Jason Powers: In the next year, we will see a lot of Nerds in the movie theaters, and I will be no exception.

The movies I'm most looking forward to include "Iron Man 3," "Star Trek: Into Darkness," and "
Man of Steel." We will also get the rest of the Hobbit movies, another Wolverine movie which I'm sure will have Hugh Jackman's stink all over it, and a Brad Pitt zombie flick that has absolutely nothing to do with the novel that it is based on.

One film I am keeping tabs on is "Robopocalpyse", which is based on a novel written by local boy Daniel H. Wilson. Steven Spielberg is directing, and had apparently purchased the rights and agreed to direct before the book was even done. Once it was published, the novel received mixed reviews but managed to be a best seller anyway. Drew Goddard of the Whedonverse wrote the script, and Chris Hemsworth is set to star, so hopefully this won't be another let-down like "War of the Worlds" was. Spielberg can be pretty hit and miss, especially with genre flicks(I'm looking at YOU Indiana Jones!), but when he hits, he hits hard.

Matt Clayton My choice is really simple. The third season of “Game of Thrones” hits HBO on March 31 and I will look forward to every Sunday for the next 10 weeks. Also, HBO announced earlier this week that each episode will be about six or seven minutes long.

The third season will roughly use content from the first half of author George R.R. Martin's largest "Song of Ice and Fire" novel, the 973-page fan-favorite "A Storm of Swords". "A Storm of Swords" is the third novel in the series from Martin.

Winter is coming.

Chris Moore There are titles coming out in 2013 such as Tomb Raider and The Last of Us, but I am not really on the edge of my seat to play these games. The one game I have been looking forward to: Star Command. This game by Warballoon will be for mobile devices and it looks incredible. It’s pretty much a parody of all things Star Trek and places you as the captain of a starship as you travel around the galaxy, maintain your ship and crew, meet peaceful aliens as well as battle hostile ones. There was really no solid release date for the game, so I have been feverishly checking the App Store everyday for this title to appear. However, in the most recent Kickstarter update from the developers, they are confident that this game will now be out in January. I can’t wait to buy this game.

Anna Codutti As one of many who think Joss Whedon's talent is worthy of worship, the promise of his 2013 release of "Much Ado About Nothing" is what gets my nerd senses all tingly. The writer-director is offering a modern retelling of my favorite Shakespeare comedy, in which two pairs of lovers are put through the ringer by both serious and comical outside forces. Amy Acker ("Angel," "Cabin in the Woods") will take on the lead role of Beatrice -- a bull-busting single gal who is determined not to let love knock her down. Alexis Denisof ("Buffy," "Angel," "How I Met Your Mother") will play Benedick, the sweet blowhard who falls for Beatrice. But perhaps my favorite bit of casting is Nathan Fillion as Dogberry, the dunce who in Shakespeare's telling offers the most comedic relief. Fillion is beloved by nerds everywhere after his portrayal of Captain Hammer in "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog" from Whedon, but he has some big shoes to fill, as Michael Keaton last played Dogberry on the big screen and stole every scene he was in. The movie is scheduled for release June 7, 2013.

James Royal There are lots of things contending here, but being a comic guy, what I’m most looking forward to is another big summer of movies drawn from the four-color world. It’s hard to say which I want to see most, though. “Man of Steel” looks awesome from what’s out there, and “The Wolverine” should be much better than “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” “Iron Man 3” looks like another Marvel epic moneymaker, and I’m curious to see how “Kick-Ass 2” will turn out without Matthew Vaughn directing. Oh, and then there’s “300: Rise of An Empire.” It’s going to be another expensive summer.

Michael Dambold I'm looking forward to the Star Trek movie. I simply cannot wait to see a ship crash into London/San Francisco.

Micah Choquette I'm most looking forward to the new Superman movie, titled "Man of Steel". Should I be embarrassed to admit that I actually enjoyed (and now own) "Superman Returns?" I remember others complaining that there wasn't a lot of action, but I try to remember that this was essentially a sequel to Superman 2 that was about 25 years in the making, so it needed a good bit of story for the entire generation that hadn't seen Superman on the big screen. But now I'm getting off-topic.

"Man of Steel" looks like it'll be a great comeback-film for supes. It's pushing itself as an all-out reboot of the character, much like the acclaimed Dark Knight Trilogy was for Batman. I hope it gets that kind of reception. I've heard others say that Zack Snyder wasn't the best choice for the director in this one, but I have to disagree. We've seen from "300" and "The Watchmen" the kind of stylized action he can give a show with a decent storyline, and the latest trailer for "Man of Steel" seems to work hard to satisfy the masses in their cry for more explosions and action this time around. Personally, I'm pumped! Can't wait to see it.

Matt Clayton floats between being a nerd, geek or a dork. Has an extensive collection of toys, comics and video games that would make any adult feel ashamed to call themselves a parent. Unlike most nerds, he does enjoy sports, but his favorite sport is soccer, so that really doesn't count as a sport anyway. Can quote "Clerks" at the drop of a hat and owns a soft-coated Wheaten Terrier named Will Wheaton. And no, Ewoks could not have possibly taken down the Empire with just sticks and rocks.

Nerd strengths: Zombies, Star Wars, Video games, Game of Thrones, Tech, cars, British soccer.

Micah Choquette is a self-proclaimed web geek who generally despises the term "nerd." He can hold his own in a conversation about comics or movies with the other Prairie Nerds, but his heart belongs to the internet and his soul was sold long ago to Apple. He routinely follows many of the design and development gurus of the day, soaking in their ideas and putting them to work for the 'World. He's also an avid user and abuser of Social Media, and can be found on Twitter, Facebook and yes, even Google+.

Nerd Strengths: Apple, Coffee, Google, Coffee, Code, Coffee. In that order.

Anna Codutti has been a card-carrying nerd since high school and the beloved academic team. Now merely a pub-trivia ringer, her refined nerd tastes have focused on Buffy (yep, she's still going!), Doctor Who and anything Felicia Day does. Her childhood crush was "TNG's" Wesley Crusher, but now she wants to marry "The Big Bang Theory's" evil Wil Wheaton.

Nerd Strengths: Music blog snobbery, tabletop/party game dominance, and ability to read supernatural young adult novels at lightning speed.

Michael Dambold is a comic fanatic who has been reading Marvel Comics since he was 11. He's read almost every X-Title book in existence. He thinks Jean Grey needs to stay dead. He also has an obsession with Star Trek, Stargate and MST3k. He's a literary nerd, obsessed with works by Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov and Jules Verne.

Nerd strengths: Coffee chugging, X-Men & Marvel Comics, Star Trek, Stargate, X-Files, paranormal mysteries (Bigfoot, etc.), classic sci-fi TV, movies and books.

Chris Moore is not ashamed to be called a Geek. It is who he is first and foremost. While some out there hide from others that they play video games, he proudly displays his love and knowledge of the pastime. He hopes one day to have a collection of games which rivals that of a city library. To this day one of his greatest moments is that he was able to watch and record the original three Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies by sheer luck.

Nerd strengths: Video games and TV.

Jason Powers is the resident geek dad. He is trying hard to raise his kids to be smart, thoughtful nerds just like his Dad raised him. He was brought up on a steady diet of Doctor Who, JRR Tolkien, Douglass Adams, Sherlock Holmes, Vertigo Comics and vintage pulp noir novels. He's been watching shows made by the BBC for so long, he sometimes has a hard time grasping American television. He still enjoys Legos a great deal.

Nerd strengths: British Science Fiction, Star Wars, Sherlock Holmes, X-files, Coffee, Zombies, Space.

James Royal can tell you what Kirby crackle is. His favorite X-Man is Nightcrawler. He owns more than two dozen Star Wars novels. He knows how much damage a magic missile does. His favorite T-shirt features the insignia of Cobra, the ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world. He liked the Walking Dead before the Walking Dead was cool.

Nerd strengths: Comic books (especially Marvel), movies, Star Wars, fantasy novels, pro wrestling (does that count), 1980s cartoons and television shows, video games.
