Chocolate cream pie from the bakery case at the Carnegie Deli at the Mirage in Las Vegas.

New Year's plans

My plan for New Year's Eve is to make James Watts' onion dip. We will likely eat too much of it, drink hot chocolate and be glad we are in our jammies watching the ball drop instead of in Times Square.

Every year when I watch the people in Times Square, I never think "I wish I was there." No way. I always feel sorry for them, shivering cold with people yelling in their ears.

Some of my family is in Las Vegas for New Year's. Now that, I am jealous of. If there, I would be eating at Daniel Boulud's Brasserie or maybe Emeril's.

So many of the best chefs have great restaurants in Vegas now. My aunt sent me a picture of a chocolate cream pie from the recently opened Carnegie Deli at the Mirage. It looks more like a chocolate cream bomb than a pie. Sounds like the perfect food to eat while ringing in the new year.

I wish that chocolate bomb would go off in my house. Looks wonderful! I'm food jealous, too. Happy New Year!
