Stars Go Dim

Last month, Tulsa's positive pop-rocker Stars Go Dim played its first show as a band, opening for multi-platinum act Switchfoot -- to a crowd that already knew the words to most of its songs. The indie phenomenon also won a songwriting award with its first demo, "Come Around," beating more than 3,000 entries in the Nashville Songwriters Association International's annual songwriting competition. That Listener's Choice Award was presented to the pop act by Country Music Television. The guys in the quartet (each member has been or is in popular Christian hard rock band Pillar) will make several appearances over the next several days, so tune in to hear interviews and performances on 11-midnight Sunday on 104.5 The Edge's local "Homegroan" show, 7-11 p.m. Monday on 91.3 KRSC college radio's "Local Flavors" show and at 11 p.m. April 26 on Channel 12/19µs "Up Late With Bill Sumner." Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago.
