Tulsa southern rock/country/2-step hybrid The Fiddlebacks is anything but what its reclusive arthropod moniker might imply. The only way to treat a bite from this 10-legged quintet is by sweatin'. Friday's show promises extra potency: Special guest Randy Crouch – and maybe even an appearance from Dustin Pittsley.

So it planned a party to help everyone celebrate his legacy.
Friday would have been his 64th birthday.
A who's-who of Tulsa music history will be there, including Guy T. Miller, Rodney Lay, John D. LeVan, Rocky Frisco, Gene Crose, Don White, Bill Holden, The Bopcats, Bill Davis, Polly Ess, Jennifer Marriott & OSO, Wes Reynolds, Steve Bagsby and many, many more.

He soon gained notoriety and became a sought-after session musician, performing with such legendary artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Phil Spector, The Byrds, The Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, B.B. King, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan, to name a few. Then he headed out on the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour with Joe Cocker and became a star. His songs are still being recorded today.

THE EFFECTS
"unplugged" acoustic show
When: 9 p.m. Monday
Where: Plan B Bar, 520 E. Third Street
Cover: Free
+ A verge-of-mega-breakout band, Tulsa rocker The Effects was recently featured in Spin magazine, too ' and in Blender magazine's "Monsters of the Midwest: Starter Bands From the Heartland That We're Totally Gay For." Totally ... awesome.
The band also gigged an amazing five shows during Austin's mega South by Southwest music festival last month, carries a seemingly endless tour schedule and has a new CD in the works. What else? Oh yeah, they're all about '60s hipster swagger, too. Bonus.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
